Two thoughts. Over the evolution of SRIs, an increasing level of precision is being demanded by investors in terms of social screens. It seems that the wave of the future will be towards user-defined SRIs, where a given fund may have a core of unimpeachable stocks, and then allow investors to prioritize the positive or negative social screens beyond that. In effect, such a fund would really been many different funds, with different levels of performance and volatility. But this added complexity would easily pay for itself by attracting a much wider range of investors.
Secondly, as the middle class becomes increasingly concerned with global corporatism, there will be a niche for funds that screen against monopolistic companies. This is essentially an intelligent version of small to mid-cap screening...it is much overdue.
