Mission Community Bank

Meeting Needs
Meeting Needs

While MCB works diligently to address many tough and complex issues in the community, the bank never loses sight of the fact that, to resolve the more multifaceted problems, the people of the community must first have their most fundamental needs met.

Established in 1989, the Food Bank Coalition is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to provide food for the needy of San Luis Obispo County. In 16 years of operation, the Food Bank has grown to a point of processing nearly four million pounds of food per year, serving more than 30,000 people in the County.

As the Food Bank Coalition evolved and the quantity of food distributions grew, they were faced with a critical shortage of warehouse space. At one point, space limitations forced them to actually turn away food donations. In response, the Food Bank’s board secured operating funds and began the process of creating a capital campaign for a new building. When they approached MCB, it provided a loan for the completion of the building campaign, and added a large donation to their new warehouse fund. MSB has also helped them acquire vehicles for transporting donations between facilities. With MSB’s support, the Food Bank Coalition has increased the amount of food they receive and distribute, and has opened a second facility in Oceano.

MCB will always support organizations like the Food Bank Coalition, maintaining that providing for the most basic of needs is what matters most.
