When Orville's house along the Sacramento River burned down, he and his wife had no where to go. The nearest homeless shelter with an opening was in Richmond.
So there they went.
“It had been a hard road the past couple of years,” he said.
At the shelter Orville learned about Rubicon. He participated in our 2 week job-readiness workshop and we found transitional housing for him and his wife. Orville started a packaging job at Bio-Rad, one of our employer partners. Then an opening at Rubicon Bakery became available and he applied. He now packages our delectable desserts for shipping across the country and has been promoted.
“I’d be living under a bridge if it weren’t for Rubicon,” he said. “Rubicon has been a blessing.”
