BRIDGE Housing Corporation

BRIDGE Housing Corporation is the largest nonprofit developer and manager of affordable housing in California. Our mission is to produce large volumes of high-quality homes for families of very low, low and moderate incomes. BRIDGE specializes in the development of family and senior affordable apartments, rental and ownership housing, and an array of revitalization, transit-oriented, urban-infill, and mixed-use/mixed-income developments. BRIDGE has become the leading affordable housing developer in California with over 13,000 homes and counting.

Program

Client Population

BRIDGE Housing's affordable homes target hard-working individuals/families and seniors in California earning very low to moderate incomes. More than 75% of our work is targeted to people earning 80% or less of the median income, and most of those at less than 60% of the median. The balance is for moderate income wage earners. Over 89% of BRIDGE residents have a high school degree or beyond, with 32% of those individuals having a college or advanced degree.

Residents living in BRIDGE properties represent a diverse group of citizens, a cross-section of California's diversity. They include:
  • Caucasian - 30%
  • African-American - 24%
  • Asian - 23%
  • Hispanic - 20%
  • Other - 3%

  • Impact

BRIDGE has built over 13,000 affordable homes for more than 35,000 Californians, helped one-fourth of their residents advance to homeownership, has provided more than 400,000 square feet of commercial space, providing hundreds of construction and permanent jobs for local residents, launched a number of innovative financing strategies, and has extended their impact area to reach beyond the Bay Area to Southern California.

    Story

    BRIDGE Housing Corporation
While working full-time and attending Cal State San Marcos, Kirsten and her husband, Chris, spent two years on BRIDGE’s waiting list before an affordable two-bedroom apartment became available at Villa Loma Apartments. After living in Villa Loma for two and a half years, the Cummings saved enough for a down payment on their first home. “Living in Villa Loma gave us this opportunity. There is just no other way we could have made it happen.” Full Story
