First American CU

First American Credit Union (FACU) has a three-fold mission: (1) to develop and provide the best possible financial services and products which are beneficial to both members and the credit union, (2) to encourage regular saving, and (3) to promote community service while strengthening the long term financial stability of the credit union. First American is dedicated to serving Native American tribal members and the community and has assets of $57,213,651 as of June 2007.

Program

FACU offers a Visa Credit Card, a Visa Check Card, FAST 24-hour Automated Phone Teller, Direct Deposit, ATMs, E-statements, Toll-free numbers, Payroll Deduction, Blue Book and Fleet, Pricing, Notary Service, Money Orders, a Member Newsletter, Insurance, California Attractions, Phone and Mail Services, New Car Pricing Information, and Credit Union Advantage Program.

FACU checking accounts include: no monthly fees, no minimum balance, no teller fees, no direct, no deposit requirement, FREE Visa check card, and interest paid on balances over $1000.

FACU savings accounts include: Share Certificates, Market Share Accounts, Regular Savings, IRAs, and All Savers Account.

FACU also offers low-cost loans including: Auto & Truck, Home Equity, Home Improvement, Signature Loans, and Lines of Credit.

FACU currently has three branches located in Window Rock and Casa Grande, Arizona and Gallup, New Mexico. In the near future it will add a fourth branch to serve its members.

Client Population

FACU is a designated low-income credit union and as of June, 2007, it had 16,981 members. Half of its current borrowers are women, most are Native American, and growing percentage of its members are either Latino or Caucasian. Approximately eighty percent of FACU's borrower communities are rural, as it serves tribal regions which tend to be located in underdeveloped areas. The regions served by FACU have high school education rates generally between 71 and 80 percent.

Impact

Since organized, FACU has made 818,176 loans totaling $296,070,792. First American continually strives to keep up with the pace of technology, to be convenient and to be affordable for its members. In keeping with this mission, the credit union has recently installed more ATMs that will provide free transactions to members. Additionally, the FACU now offers Saturday services and online Bill Pay.

First American Credit Union has always been dedicated to developing and providing the best possible financial services and products for its members while also encouraging their regular savings activities. That is why FACU is proud of its relocated Gallup Office. The new location, in Mesa View Plaza, will allow credit union members to access all of the same services in a more convenient location. This new location will be the key to FACUís continued growth, looking forward to serving the Gallup and surrounding community for many years to come. Full Story
