Everyday Third Coast Produce delivers fresh, quality produce to communities across the greater Houston metro area ensuring that school districts, hotels, and restaurants have access to the good food that contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Not only does the farm provide a great product and service for many Houston businesses, but it also plays a prominent role in the economic vitality of the local Latino community.
Located in a neighborhood with a 23 percent poverty rate, Third Coast's employees are drawn from the local community and 95 percent of these workers are of Latino descent. One of the three business owners is of Latino descent, and in addition to the general workforce, Third Coast offers opportunity for professional advancement, filling many of its managerial positions from within the community. With their strong product and positive contribution to the community, Third Coast needed additional space to really expand its business.
CRF partnered with William Mann CDC to provide $2.5 million in financing that allowed the business to construct a permanent cold-storage warehouse and double the size of its operation. Third Coast employed 95 people prior to this expansion and with the added capacity has been able to add approximately 40 new employees.
