Bereke is a non-profit microfinance organization located in the northeastern region of Kazakhstan. It is both profitable and socially oriented. It was started by the UNDP in 1997 as a poverty alleviation program in the region of Semipalatinsk which had high levels of poverty and unemployment. It is considered one of the best microfinance institutions in Kazakhstan, because of its personal approach to clients and its social focus on rural women.
