Pro Mujer Peru is an affiliate of Pro Mujer, an international microfinance institution and women's development network that provides Latin America's poorest women with access to critical services. Pro Mujer Peru provides clients with an integrated package of financial and human development services that build livelihoods and futures.
Pro Mujer Peru offers a wide range of services to its clients, including financial services (loan products and access to saving accounts), business and human development training, and access to healthcare through negotiated alliances with third-party providers.
- Financial Services- Clients are offered a variety of products; the three principal
products offered are communal association loans, seasonal loans, and education loans. A new loan
product is currently being developed that is targeted towards clients who have a long repayment
history, as well as a product for agro-commercial entrepreneurs.
- Health and
Human Development Services- Pro Mujer Peru has established linkages to healthcare providers to
negotiate reduced rates for clients. The MFI organizes in-house health campaigns that are
conducted in neighborhood centers by healthcare providers supplying numerous services. These
campaigns are intended to increase the accessibility of health services and the number of clients
receiving them. Pro Mujer Peru recently partnered with a Peruvian healthcare company (an
International Planned Parenthood Affiliate) to create a pre-paid package of health service for
clients and their familes. The project is currently in its pilot phase and will be expanded across
the entire institution if successful. Additional services provided include individualized
attention for women and their families coping with alcoholism or domestic violence in the family
and educational centers for young children of clients.
Pro Mujer Peru lends exclusively to poor women in Peru. These entrepreneurial women are in need of support for their businesses, looking to obtain access to affordable healthcare for themselves and their children, and working to find their voices as active members of their communities.
Pro Mujer Peru currently serves 54,326 clients, with client savings totaling $3,748,000. The MFI has provided these clients with support beyond financial services with the wide array of human and health development services that are offered. Pro Mujer Peru was recognized for its strong social impact in 2008 when it was named in Forbes' first-ever list of the World's Top 50 Microfinance Institutions, chosen from a list of 641 organizations prepared by the Microfinance Information Exchange.
