Montana Community Development Corporation (MCDC) is a non-profit organization serving individual business owners and communities throughout Montana. MCDC's mission is to partner with people and communities that want to prosper, offering innovative financing and consulting solutions for business startup and expansion. Our work creates economic opportunity for all members of our communities. Since 1989, MCDC has served hundreds of entrepreneurs with loans, consulting and training. MCDC has lent more than $15 million to 383 businesses since inception.
Business Counseling: Free, practical business planning through the Small Business Development Center that strengthens capacity and lays the foundation for long-term viability.
Small Business Loans: Targets viable enterprises that are unable to obtain bank loans.
Loan Packaging: Assists in approaching conventional lenders for financing, sometimes combining a commercial loan with MCDC or public funds, making packages bankable.
New Markets Tax Credit Program: In 2008 was awarded $40 million dollars in New Markets Tax Credit authority from the U.S. Treasury's CDFI Fund for use in economic development projects in low-income areas throughout Montana.
Native American Fund: A special fund designated for making loans to Native American borrowers.
Montana Child Care Loan Fund: Designed to help childcare businesses expand facilities and improve programs.
Small Wood Enterprise Agent Program (SWEAP): Created to help entrepreneurs develop new uses for the smaller logs expected to result from the United States Forest Service (Region 1&4 State and Private Forestry) National Fire Plan.
MCDC serves individuals and businesses throughout the State of Montana. Montana is geographically large, rural, diverse, and sparsely populated. MCDC's clients range from one-person, home-based businesses to large corporations. These firms have created thousands of jobs in Western Montana, benefiting the low- and moderate-income individuals and families of these communities. Fifty-two percent of all borrowers are women.
The individuals and corporations that MCDC serves have created hundreds of jobs in Western Montana. Since inception, MCDC has lent more than $15,000,000 to 383 borrowers in the State of Montana. In FY09 alone (July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009), MCDC lent $2,755, 000 to 23 borrowers. The businesses ranged from a children's gymnastics facility in a low-income neighborhood to a cell tower construction company that creates jobs in the technology industry and provides essential technology services to rural Montana.
Montana Community Development Corporation lent $35,000 to RAT Studios, LLC, a start-up wildlife film production company. This “seed” loan funded production of a demo video needed to finalize a $3 million contract for production of a Montana based wildlife film series called The Circle of the Sky. Staff at MCDC worked with the principals to develop and formalize the company’s business plan to include three-year cash flow projections and break-even analysis. Full Story
