Two New Indexes of SRI Interest
Standard & Poor's in partnership with CRISIL, KLD Research & Analytics, and the International Finance Corporation
(IFC) recently launched the S&P ESG India Index.
The new index includes 50 Indian companies that pass a strict environmental, social and governance
(ESG) screens.
The S&P ESG India Index is created from the
largest 500 companies on the National Stock Exchange of India. The index differentiates itself from
other indexes by equating a company's ESG score to its index weightings.
FTSE, working with Impax, an environmental
investment manager, has created the FTSE ET50 Index, which includes 50 of the largest pure play
environmental technology companies. These global companies have an investable market cap of $161
billion. The majority of the companies included in the index are alternative energy and energy
efficiency companies.
The top ten listing in the FSTE ET50 include Vestas Wind Systems,
Suntech Power Holdings, First Solar, Gamesa, Iberdrola Renovables, SolarWorld AG, Novozymes A/S,
Q-CELLS, Stericycle, and Pall Corp.
