New York City Fights Workplace Discrimination
In an announcement at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center in Manhattan at
the end of January, New York City Comptroller, William C. Thompson Jr. and the New York City Pension
Funds put their support behind proposals at major companies barring discrimination based on sexual
orientation and gender identity.
The resolutions were filed at 24 companies
found in the Fortune 1000. Gender identity is appearing for the second time in 2008, added to
proposals banning discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The NYC comptroller filed
the resolutions on behalf of New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS), New York City
Police Pension Fund, New York City Fire Department Pension Fund, New York City Teachers' Retirement
System (TRS) and New York City Board of Education Retirement System.
